They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But wouldn't it be nice if pictures could speak and tell you the whole story?

What brought me to this is, that in high school we did a class about perception. And deception, for that matter. We were shown a photo in which an elderly black lady was laying on the ground crying, while a young man wearing what could best be described as neo-Nazi clothing, was running away. You mind likes to fill in the blanks, so when we were asked what we saw in the photo, most people said that the kid had probably just assaulted the old lady. Then we were shown the full picture. The white kid was actually chasing another kid who'd just stolen the old lady's purse.

Perception does not always equal reality.

Anyway... I took this concept and updated it for the war in Iraq. The picture I used is actually a combination of five photos - the background, the woman, the large rocks in the foreground, the man on the rooftop, and the boy with his bicycle. They're stock photos I got from the Defense Visual Information Center at [link] . I put them together in Photoshop and added the text.
