Some time ago, I sat down with Flash and created a nice German Shepherd sign that I am going to have made into a reflective decal for the side of my SUV (it will say, "caution working dog, keep away" with an image of a German Shepherd).

I've kind of been wanting to do another Shepherd project since, and I figured I would make some educational signage. So I designed a German Shepherd image in Flash using a photo reference, and then added the coloring and everything else in Photoshop.

This is the second one in a series of three. This one is Patterns of the German Shepherd, and the other two are anatomy and colors. (Check my gallery to see the others.)

Any tips on how to make a golden sable in photoshop? I believe that my own GSD has a certain allele, forgot exactly which set it is, but it causes her black to fade... So she looks a bit like a golden sable. I believe a "red tip" on the tail is a way of defining this allele.

I would use a "fuzzy" brush (one with lots of little dots rather than a solid big dot) and 50% opacity and then go at it. That's how I did the sables on the poster. :)
