In reality, when a dog or cat stand on a hard surface, neither print should include the claws. If they show, the claws are too long - both for the dog and the cat. However, if a cat puts weight on his paw, such as perching forward, it's perfectly possible for the claws to touch the surface. Just ask anyone whose cats like to "stand" on top of them.
