I used a photo as reference for this and also used the actual photo as the background in this piece, even though you can't really tell. I used the cutout and blur tools on the background. A lot of the colors in the drawing are based on those in the actual photo. As far as the art goes, I departed from my usual "clean" lines because I wanted to give the picture kind of a hectic feeling. I'm not sure if that comes across but it turned out okay.
(And before anyone says this should be political or current events - I didn't put it there for a reason.)
Nice, I am liking this! ! I will have to all this type because you truly are a master at this!

Oooo... I'm going to have to add this to the LaFavorite list, for obvious reasons. And, before anyone else gets to "technical" I actually have seen two (2) AMEDD patches out here. The people behind them are usually a little off the wall, so it's more like an "I'm a lost doc, help me?" patch.... You've also captured the way we're usually "wide awake".... Uh..yeh. ^,^
I'm really glad you like this. It seems like I'm going into a series with these, I guess the logical next step would be to do a MEDEVAC flight one? I didn't know it was going to turn into this when I did the quick sketch for reflection...
As for the AMEDD patch, in the original photo you can't really see the patches at all so I chose to go with something that is definitely recognizeable as medical. Hence the AMEDD patch. It makes little sense, I guess, but I'm sure most people won't notice.

The AMEDD patches out here are worn at the combat support hospitals. Those are the physicians and what not that come out from MEDAC posts (Walter Reed, Madigan etc.) for short rotations. The new doc (in a support battalion) had one before he got "squared away" with the 25ID patch. I actually never knew that they made them in brown until almost a year after being out here.
But, it is an excellent peice of work, never the less. Speaking of medic, I guess I actually have to get ready for work... 3 more months, 3 more months!

Actually, there isn't terribly much skill involved here. Just an eye for detail and liberal use of shadowing. ^^*
